WELCOME BACK!     (Some early information)

The 'Coaster' returns to Roberts Creek May 5th and 6th,  2012. Featuring a new longer marathon xc with more exciting single track, the infamous Mach Chicken downhill, and the popular salmon bbq and beer garden. Registration opens online through  CCN on March 1st  2012.

ACCESS
From  Horseshoe Bay you will need to be on the first ferry at 7.20am to make the XC race start at 10am.  You should probably be at the terminal by 7am.  Last year we had a keener who rode his bike to the race site (about 15kms) completed the marathon, and rode back to the ferry!
You can also put your bike on the bus in Langdale and ask to get off at the B&K logging road but beware there are only 2-bike racks on the buses.
Drive to Roberts Creek and look for our "Mountain Bike Race 1km sign" then make a right turn up the B&K logging road.  Go up to the powerlines and hang a right where you will be directed to available parking by our friendly volunteers.

Our good friends coming down from Powell River should take the first left after the traffic light in Roberts Creek.

REGISTRATION
Registration will be on-line only via CCN as per last year and opens on March 1st.
The data bases of Cycling BC and CCN have been meshed so you will not be able to register in race categories you are not licensed for.
Unlicensed racers must purchase one-day insurance for either event.

KIDS RACE
We are working on a race for the Under 12 group.  Registration for same will be 9am. on-site only, cash only.  The race will start right after the 10am mass start on Saturday.
Check back for updates on this one.

CROSSCOUNTRY MARATHON
Course designer Rod Camposano is working on some new single track to add to the XC Marathon, bringing us close to the 50kms mark.  These are trails that may  be added to BC Bike Race's Day 5 but you get to see them first!  Mass start 10am on Saturday with the option to self-seed according to your previous times at this race.
There will be two well-stocked feed stations on course as well as many marshals and first aiders.
We will again provide you with a cell phone number at check-in which you can use for emergencies if necessary.  There will be a three hour (1pm.) cut-off at the first feed station where you will then be required to follow the 'shorter' xc course. We hope to have the course marked for pre-riding at least two weeks prior to the event.  This will be weather dependent.  If we end up with a heavy snow load on the B&K road this year, we reserve the right to amend the course as necessary.
SHORT COURSE XC
About 25kms of scenic Roberts Creek trails but enough of a challenge to those not quite up to the whole 50kms.  Follow the Marathon course to the first feed station where you will be turned onto the short course.

DOWNHILL RACE
The infamous Mach Chicken downhill returns.  Pre-ride shuttles provided on Sunday 8am - noon, with racing starting at 1pm and going to about 4.30m.  Registration limited to 200 riders.  U15 friendly course, however, you must be 13 this year to race.

The "B" team will again be offering smokies and hotdogs at the DH finish area as a fundraiser for their club.

We will be parking our friends from Search & Rescue and Coast TV in this area as well as the podium and prize table, so PLEASE DON'T SET UP YOUR TEAM CAMPSITE HERE!

SHUTTLES
Organized shuttles are provided  all day Sunday.  There will be 2 buses and 2 bike trailers.  We can upload 60 bikes and riders per hour.  Private shuttling is discouraged on race day as the extra traffic on the logging road becomes a nuisance.
